Examination and autopsy findings:
The body was examined in the presence of a ballistics expert. The body belonged to an unidentified male who was approximately 21 years old. He was naked and covered in blood. The body was referred to this center for examination.
The deceased was approximately 185 cm tall and weighed about 90 kg. Rigor mortis had fully set in, and livor mortis had developed on the posterior side of the body. Death occurred on June 20, 2009.
Abrasions were observed and palpated on the left side of the forehead, the bridge of the nose, the right side of the nose, the upper lip, the lower lip, the chin, and the left cheek. Fractures of the two central upper teeth and bruising of the upper lip mucosa were also noted. Examination of the neck showed no signs of trauma or ligature marks. An approximately oval-shaped wound measuring 8 by 9 millimeters with marginal burning was observed on the sternum. It was located along the midline, five centimeters below the upper tip of the sternum (identified as the bullet entry wound).
Additionally, a circular wound measuring 8 mm in diameter was found on the right posterior side of the torso, 10 cm below the right scapula and in the sixth posterior intercostal space (identified as the bullet exit wound). The bullet trajectory was from left to right, top to bottom, and front to back.
A wide thoracotomy incision was also observed on the left side of the chest in the fourth intercostal space. There were extensive abrasions and significant bruising on the lower back and left flank. Upon examination of the limbs, bruising and a torn fingernail on the left hand were noted. No bone fractures or dislocations were palpable. No abnormalities were found upon examination of the genital or anal areas. The body was opened via a standard autopsy incision. The circular wound on the sternum aligned with the entry wound on the skin. The sternum was removed. A through-and-through wound was identified in the anterior and posterior parts of the lower lobe of the right lung. The exit wound was located in the right posterior intercostal space of the abdomen. The left lung and heart appeared unaffected.
The bullet path matched the described trajectory (left to right, top to bottom, and front to back). No blood or fluid was found in the abdominal cavity. The abdominal organs appeared normal. The cause of death was determined to be gunshot trauma to the chest. Comment on the shooting distance and angle is subject to the expert opinion of ballistics specialists.
A burial permit was issued.
