About this Case

The information about Mr. Mohammad Seyed Mohsen Damavandi is taken from the book Our Martyrs for Freedom and Socialism by Rah-e Kargar Publications. During the previous regime, in 1973, he was arrested for being a sympathizer of the Fadayian Khalq Organization. After his release, he joined the Marxist-Leninist section of the Mojahedin Organization. In the spring of 1975, he was shot during an escape attempt. He was arrested, tortured, and condemned to life imprisonment. After the revolution, he was released from prison and he became one of the first members of the Revolutionary Workers Organization of Iran, Rah-e Kargar.

"Rah-e Kargar" or the "Revolutionary Workers Organization of Iran" was established in the summer of 1979. The Organization was founded by individuals from various leftist groups who rejected the idea of armed struggle and believed in political action. They identified themselves as Marxist-Leninists, promoting a socialist revolution and the leadership of the proletariat. They differed with the pro-Soviet communist party, Tudeh, in that they opposed the Islamic Republic and Ayatollah Khomeini's leadership.

Mr. Mohammad Seyed Mohsen Damavandi was arrested in Tehran in August, 1981 and taken to Evin Prison. According to the above book, he did not disclose his identity and in his last message to Rah-e Kargar organization, he said: “I have not disclosed my identity or any other secrets of our struggle.
