About this Case

The execution of Mr. Amir Kh. Was reported by many sources, including Khabar-e-Jonoub Newspaper website (April 16, 2009) and Iranian Student Correspondents Association – ISCA News (April 17, 2009).  According to available information, Mr. Amir Kh.’s case was related to a persecution, assault, and murder, in Shiraz.

Arrest and detention

Mr. Amir Kh. was arrested at one of the hospitals in Shiraz, and taken to the police station, following the suspicious death of Ms. Robabeh Kh. The circumstances of his arrest and detention are not known.

Trial

Mr. Kh was tried by the Criminal Court of Fars Province, Section 5.  The defendant, family of the deceased, and four advisors (Judges) were present at the trial (ISCA News April 17, 2009).  No information is available on this trial.

Charges

The charges brought against Mr. Amir Kh were “persecution” and “murder”.  He was accused of brutalizing one of his distant relatives, Ms. Robabeh Kh, murdering her with repeated blows of a rock, and abandoning her corpse in the mountainous area around the town of Khorameh (Kharameh?), Fars Province.

Evidence of guilt

According to available information, the basis of the court’s verdict was Mr. Amir Kh’s confession.  He confessed to abusing and killing Ms. Robabeh Kh, to the arresting officer, the District Attorney, and the court.

The documents against Mr. Amir Kh include the report of the Coroner’s Office, which describes death caused by heavy blows of a hard object to the head, and also the testimony of the sister of the victim, who saw Mr. Amir fleeing the scene of the crime.

Defense

In court, Mr. Amir Kh asked the family of the victim for clemency, but they refused his plea (ISCA News, April 17, 2009).  No information is available on Mr. Amir Kh’s defense.

Judgment

Branch 5 of the Criminal Court of Fars Province sentenced Mr. Amir Kh. to death by hanging (for retribution).  This sentence was requested by the District Attorney and the family of the victim. His sentence was approved by the Supreme Court.

Mr. Amir Kh. was executed on the morning of April 15, 2009, in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz (Khabar-e-Jonoub, April 16, 2009). There is no information on the details of the verdict leading to this execution.
