News of the execution of Mr. H. R., son of Gholam Hossein, along with two others, was published on the websites of Gilan General Courthouse on March 1, 2015, quoting the Public Relations Office of the Gilan General Courthouse, and Jamejam Online on March 2, 2015. Mr. H. R, 28, was from Gilan.  

Arrest and detention

The circumstances of Mr. H. R’s arrest and detention are not known.


The Criminal Court of Gilan tried Mr. H. R. No information is available on his trial.


According to the Public Relations Office of the Gilan General Courthouse, the charge against Mr. H. R. was announced as “murder.” According to the Jamejam Online report, after having an affair with a woman, he murdered her husband in 2011.  

The validity of the criminal charges brought against this defendant cannot be ascertained in the absence of the basic guarantees of a fair trial. 

Evidence of guilt

The evidence provided against Mr. H. R. was his “confession to committing the crime.”

International human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for its systematic use of severe torture and solitary confinement to obtain confessions from detainees and have questioned the authenticity of confessions obtained under duress.  


No information is available on Mr. H. R.’s defense.


The Criminal Court of Gilan condemned Mr. H. R. to death and the Supreme Court confirmed the ruling. He was hanged in the presence of authorities at the Rasht Prison yard on Saturday February 28, 2015. His body was transferred to the morgue.
