About this Case

Ms. A’zam Kashani is one of the 1533 executed prisoners listed by the Association of Iranian Women of Köln (Germany). The list published in 1997 is entitled: "A partial list of names of women executed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This execution was also reported in an addendum to the Mojahed magazine (No 261), published by Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) in 1985. The list includes 12028 individuals, affiliated with various opposition groups, who were executed or killed during clashes with the Islamic Republic security forces from June 1981 to the publication date of the magazine.

Further information was sent to Omid via an electronic form by a person familiar with the case. Ms. Kashani was very active in the Mojahedin Khalq Organization and according to the form she was a member of the Organization. Her 2 sisters and brother were also arrested in 1981.

On the addendum of the Mojahed magazine it is mentioned that Ms. Kashani had been killed during an armed clash with the Revolutionary Guards. On the form, however, it is stated that Ms. Kashani was injured during the clash, but later taken to prison and executed. The sender of the form, points out to a testimony of one of the prisoners who recalled seeing a note written on the prison wall saying “My name is A’zam Kashani, I was tried on the [unknown date] and sentenced to death.”

Arrest and detention

Based on the information available on the form, Ms. Kashani, along with her mother, was arrested during an armed clash with the Revolutionary Guards at a Mojahedin team house in the Tehranpars area in 1982. Ms. Kashani was injured during the clash, and her mother, who had lost consciousness, did not see her after the incident. Her family was not notified of the location of her detention.
