Letter

HRANA - Mamousta Farhad Salimi from Saqez was arrested by security forces on 8 February 2010.

The father of this prisoner of conscience in the Raja’i Shahr prison, whose case is still undecided after almost 4 years, in a letter to Ban Ki-moon writes: "My son, along with 130 other Sunni political prisoners, is now in the Rajai’ Shahr prison and his case has been undecided for 43 months. He has been imprisoned without a trial or any arrest warrant.”

The full text of the letter provided to HRANA is as follows:

His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, read my painful letter as my son has been in the Iran regime’s prisons for a long time and his case is still undecided.

My son is one of the known civic faces from the West of the country and was several times threatened by the security forces due to his activities to defend peoples’ rights. He was eventually arrested by the Ministry of Information on 08 February 2010 and transferred to one of the solitary confinement units in the Information Office of Orumieh.

It is worth mentioning that there were a large number of Sunni political activists arrested or assassinated during the two terms of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency. My son was one of these religious activists who were arrested.

They kept my son in solitary confinement in Orumieh’s Information Office for a long time without being guilty of anything or committing any crime. He was not allowed visits, phone calls, or even fresh air. He was then transferred to the Evin Prison after a year and after that to the horrific Prison of Raja’i Shahr.

Over the past four years, I have gone several times to various authorities and the Ministry of Information but never received a convincing answer.

When I went to the Ministry of Information in Orumieh, they told me to go to the court; at the court, they said his case had been transferred to Tehran; when I went to Tehran, they sent me to Sanandaj; and in Sanandaj they told me that they would not review the cases from Orumieh. I finally got tired (I gave up). It has been a while that I have been diagnosed with cancer. I am now resting at home and do not have enough strength to go out.  I am, therefore, requesting you to write a letter to the Iranian authorities, in particular to the newly assigned President who has promised the release of political prisoners, to free my son and all the other political prisoners who their families are waiting for them.

My son, along with 130 other Sunni political prisoners, is in the Raja’i Shahr prison and his case has been pending for 43 months. He was arrested without going to the court or being issued an arrest warrant.
