About this Case

The information about Mr. Darab Karimi is taken from the book Our Martyrs in the Path to Freedom, copyright 1988 by Rah-e Kargar publications. He was born in Pol-e-sefid village near Savadkuh. In 1980, he joined the Revolutionary Workers Organization of Iran-Rah-e Kargar. He worked for this organization and sold its publications in Qa'emshahr.

This execution was also reported in an addendum to the Mojahed magazine (No 261), published by Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) in 1985. The list includes 12028 individuals, affiliated with various opposition groups, who were executed or killed during clashes with the Islamic Republic security forces from June 1981 to the publication date of the magazine. According to the addendum, Mr. Karimi was a member of the Peykar Organization.

"Rah-e Kargar" or the "Revolutionary Workers Organization of Iran" was established in the summer of 1979. The Organization was founded by individuals from various leftist groups who rejected the idea of armed struggle and believed in political action. They called themselves as Marxist-Leninists, promoting a socialist revolution and the leadership of the proletariat. They differed with the pro-Soviet communist party, the Tudeh Party, in that they opposed the Islamic Republic and Ayatollah Khomeini's leadership.

The circumstances of this defendant’s arrest and detention are not known. Mr. Darab Karimi was arrested in Qa'emshahr in the summer of 1981. He was transferred to the city’s prison.

Judgment

No specific information is available about the defendant’s execution. Based on the information present at the Mojahedin Addendum, Mr. Karimi was executed on November 25, 1981. According to the Rah-e Kargar book, the court first sentenced Mr. Karimi to three years imprisonment. But, after being pressured by the Hezbollah forces of the city, the court condemned him to death. He was executed by a firing squad in the Qa'emshahr Prison on December 4, 1981. According to the same source, the officials delivered his body to his family in Pol-e-sefid; but, they did not give them permission for to bury him in the cemetery. His father secretly buried him in his own land at night. During his memorial ceremony, the Revolutionary Guards were stationed in front of his house to prevent people from attending. However, the local people visited his family to express their condolences.
