Naser Qasemi (m), aged 23

Mohammad Reza Haddadi (m), aged 20 alleged juvenile offenders

The execution of Mohammad Reza Haddadi was halted by the head of the judiciary the day it was due to take place. The Supreme Court, which had ordered that the case be reviewed, will proceed with its review.

There is still no news about Naser Qasemi, who was sentenced to death for a crime committed when he was 15.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: PLEASE SEND APPEALS TO ARRIVE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, IN PERSIAN, ARABIC, ENGLISH OR YOUR OWN LANGUAGE:

- welcoming the news thatMohammad Reza Haddadi's execution has been halted;

- urging the authorities to commute his death sentence;

- expressing concern for Nasser Qasemi, who is facing execution for a crime he is alleged to have committed when he was 15;

- reminding them that Iran is a state party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which prohibit the use of the death penalty against people convicted of crimes committed when they were under 18.
